Does anyone else get asked why they’re vegan and then when you answer, the other person gets super defensive?

It usually goes like this, half the time with a condescending tone.

“So why are you vegan/don’t eat meat etc?”

“…you really wanna get into that?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, well it’s mostly for the environment. It cuts your carbon footprint in half. Also, factory farming is horribly abusive and exploitative. Thirdly, it’s much lower in saturated fat, higher in fiber, and higher in phytochemicals.”

“Well I just love steak!”

Girl, I did not ask…that is not how a normal conversation flows.

I think it’s so weird from a behavioral standpoint. And they keep pushing it too! They’re like “and bacon! Couldn’t live without it!” like a the normal thing to say would be “oh, I never thought of that” or “tell me more” or “hmm I’ll have to look into the research more” like literally anything else, even if they don’t agree.
